S/V agreement

Neither the students nor the teacher ... to make up the class they missed.

(a) wants
(b) want
(c) had wanted
(d) have wanted

My tutor said that only (a) is correct. I think (b) is also correct (at least) in British English.
Am I right?

Yes, many BrE speakers would accept a plural verb here.
