adverb + noun

Post by Rustamsher »

My friends are mostly(adv) non-smokers(n).

Dear Teacher, does "mostly" modify the noun non-smokers or the verb arein the
sentence OR does it modify the whole sentence?
Adverbs usually modify verbs, adverbs and adjectives. In general, can adverbs also
modify nouns?

Many thanks..

No, adverbs cannot modify nouns.

'Mostly' here postmodifies 'are'.
