Why it's wrong

I don't understand the structure of those, please explain it for me, thank a lot!
1. Sapphires weighing as much as two pounds have on occasion mined. ( I don't identify what the subject and predicate are. weighing is adjective, isn't it?)
2.It is providing less costly and more profitably for drug-makers to market directly to patients.(the answer is " more profitably", I think linking word here is "and" so using an adverb like "profitably" is correct, but in fact it's not)
