Dear Alan
When we use a noun after intransitive verb, is it not better to use a preposition before the noun to make the prepositional phrase an adverb phrase. For example, is 'They parted as friends' not better than 'They parted friends' grammatically? Or, are they same grammatically? Which is better idiomatically?

Re: Intransitive verbs and nouns
From a grammatical viewpoint, they are equally acceptable!
'As', although possible, is not necessary here.
