a word to describe the competition for a job among applicants

Post by kwfine »

When there are many applicants going for a particular job, for example, 100 applicants for a job vacancy in a government department.
Can I say the competition for the job vacancy in the government department is intensive?
I am not sure whether the word, intensive is appropriate in this example.
