as ....as

Post by MARYAM »

I am really confused about the following sentences
1-And passive smokers experience as much /many health consequences as real smokers do
2-It is many /much useful information for me
3- why we use equatives with singular noun in this structure?
He is not as good a teacher as Mrs maryam
if we want to use this structure : as adj+ploural noun as or as adj+ uncountable noun as then what should we do?

To get straight to what seems to be the nub of your question: modification of nouns in equative constructions is normally possible only in the case of singular count nouns, e.g.

This is AS CHEAP A BAG as you'll find in this shop.

(note the position of the indefinite article!).

In the case of non-count and plural nouns, the noun is complemented rather than directly modified, e.g.

The coffee they serve here is AS DELICIOUS as you'll find anywhere.

The amateur players we watched yesterday were AS GOOD as any professionals.

(Similar restrictions apply with regard to 'so' and 'too', although, conversationally, natives will frequently ignore them for the sake of brevity.)
