suddenly the spanish Goverment has arrested him .....

and put him in the jail for 7 years

Too bad your link is to Al Jazeera as they are not know for being very fair and partial in their reporting. Al-Jazeera has stood behind its ''renowned correspondent'' Taysir Alluni, chiefly by refusing to report details of the trial or of the charges against Mr Alluni.

Judge Baltasar Garzon issued a 700-page indictment against Mr Alluni. The document alleges Mr Alluni had violent, political not journalistic links to al-Qaeda, specifically to Imad Eddin Barakat Yarkas, alias Abou Dahdah, the leader of a fundamentalist gang dismantled by Spanish police in November, 2001.

Concerning Yarkas: The Immigration and National Security Program at the Nixon Center has compiled verifiable data on 212 individuals implicated in major terrorist attacks since the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. Within this data they have uncovered a significant Spanish presence. 11 of 212 operatives used Spain as a home base. The majority were linked to Imad Eddin Barakat Yarkas, aka Abu Dahdah, a naturalized Spanish citizen of Syrian origin. Arrested in 2001, Yarkas was the alleged ringleader of the “Abu Dahdah Cell,” a Spanish fundraising and recruiting cell. Yarkas, who lived in a Madrid suburb, is alleged to be bin Laden’s point man in Spain. Abu Dahdah’s passport was found in the home of Abu Qatada, a London imam described as Al-Qaeda’s spiritual emissary to Europe. Investigators believe Yarkas was Abu Qatada’s operational counterpart.

None of those facts have been reported by Al-Jazeera. Or these.

In 2003 Spain-based al Jazeera cameraman Taysir Alluni was placed under investigation for allegedly using his journalism credentials to pass information between Al-Qaeda commanders in the Middle East and cells in Europe.
Mr Rubira said it was "suspicious" that al-Jazeera had chosen to send him to Afghanistan. He also said Mr Alluni's "extensive contacts" with Islamist extremists were "suspicious".

The collaboration charge rested on Dollars 4,500 (Euros 3,700, Pounds 2,500) Mr Alluni took to a family of Syrian exiles in Afghanistan. The prosecutor alleged the family were al-Qaeda operatives."You look as though you were interviewing your boss," Pedro Rubira, state prosecutor, told Mr Alluni.

It looks pretty bad for this "journalist". I'd say that the Spanish legal system heard all the facts on the case and Alluni was properly convicted.

What doe the arrest of the journalist mean...? that every reporter that make an interview to an any enemy of USA will be judge of terrorist. International laws of comunication give the right to reporters to not revel the identity of the person that give secret information, or not to revel the place where that people is. A journalist has the right of give information to the citizens in order they get a point of view.
The arrest was an injustice. Then all the reporters of CNN, BBC, etc are terrorist because they interview the bigest terrorist arround the world: George Bush.

STORY OF Taysir Alluni


Alluni, who began his career as an Arabic translator for a news agency in Granada, Spain, is credited as being the only journalist based in Afghanistan in October 2001 to show the world what the US war machine was doing to one of the world's poorest countries.



By then working for Aljazeera, Alluni was able to capture images of civilian victims in the destitute villages of Afghanistan and the miserable streets of Kabul. His coverage triggered international outrage over the US action in Afghanistan.



Alluni's work in that war-torn country came to an end when US forces bombed Aljazeera's Kabul office just hours before the Northern Alliance entered the Afghan capital. While many say the office was deliberately targeted, Aljazeera keeps an open mind, while still asking for an official investigation.



Alluni left Kabul shortly before his office was bombed, following the Taliban retreat and reporting on it. Much of what he witnessed was too distressing to show and he was himself assaulted. "Scenes that, I'm sorry, I could not describe to anybody," he said.



Beaten and mugged, Alluni has not said who attacked him but described the incident as leaving him "in deep psychological shock".
