Today I was hearing the radio station "Echo Moskvy". One journalist (or an exprert, I'm not sure) compared the situation in Iraq and Afganistan. He said that the Soviet troops controlled situation in Kabul much better than the US troops in Bagdad. Back in time of Soviet occupation it was quite safe for troops to go to the city. Nowadays American troops just have to stay inside their fortified positions. They do not control the city at all.

and who said that american troops are taking control of the city or even Iraq, what's going on there is just a mess.
