Roger.

At last, we have something interesting. As far as I understand any large plane can be used for civil and military purposes. As for civil ones it's quite clear and let's don't waste time talking about them.

What about military purposes? First recall that China has the strong army and it also uses modern technologies. For example, a few years ago China managed to put a man into space. It was a big success. But then China used its rocket technology to launch a missile that destroyed an old China satellite in the outer space. And it's clear demonstration of its military capabilities. What's more worrying is that China did't even told other countries beforehand about that test.

Let's return to the plane. My suggestion is that China is going to use it primarily for delivering airborn troops. I guess they have being buying this sort of planes from the USSR and Russia for a long time. However to be honest we have in Russia rather bad situation with producing modern aircrafts and China is likely to expect that we will not be capable of making good military airplanes in future. Besides there is a possibility that Russia will consider China as a threat to itself in 2020 and will stop exporting military equipment that might be used againt it. So, they have decided to start making their own plane.

The plane has range up to 4000 km. Let's remember that the military airplane has to return to its airbase. So now we have up to 2000 km range. It covers in the north almost the whole Siberia and the Far East and in the east the whole Japan and South Korea. Other directions you can calculate yourself.

Finally let's assume that the plane is capable of delivering 300 airborn troops with thier ammunition and arms. If you asked me I would say that is quite impressive.
