It's Erskine Caldwell's Tobacco Road Many times the book that pretends to be the masterpiece of literature turned out to be non of my interest, boring and predictable, but this very one I'm happy I've discovered is above and beyond This is a book I would like to shot a movie on if I were a director - someting resembling the Jarmusch's Deadman - a mixture of drama and high-brow comedy.

It's preety short to be read in a couple of days, truly take a look if you come across it, it is really worth reading, don't spare your time on it.

Fast reading course? How do you do it? Skim the page and only pick up the important parts or words that stand out?
well, usually I have to do some exercises before, like juggling, relaxation and then I use this little stick that I tap each line of the page so I just focus on the text my eyes moving along the stick. And of course you can't read in your head. You just have to see and understand but not saying it in your thoughts because it only makes you read slower. to be honest you have to practise a lot to get to the point where you really understand the book by just tapping through the pages. But when I had an exam (because to finish the course we had to take a final exam) I practised reading one book a day for 7 days and at the end I was really like reading a book that had 300 pages for 2 hours and I could remember nearly all of it.

omg! it's my favourite book! it was written by a Pole ;d and it's so sad.. but I love it. though I must say it's specific and not everyone will enjoy it, loads of different stories combined together, plenty of details and many talks about love and sexuality and of course deep melancholy.

Richard Laymon is my new favourite horror writer. Last book I read is "Island", by the aforementioned author. Now I'm reading "Night in the lonesome October". And I'm plannig on reading his whole oeuvre, he has about 30 books published.

I have added two more authors to my "all-weather" list: It's Ken Kesey and Rudyard Kipling.

Also British actor and well, a comedian in some way Stephen Fry is extremely popular in my country. At least was in December when all the shelves in a local bookfair were overloaded with his samples. I read The Hippopotamus in 5-day-time, quite amusing, I skipped the wet scenes, you know, it's too democratic for my mind, but liked the plot and the language.

Now I'm obsessed by Russian short-story writers of the first half of the 20th cent... and Rudyard Kipling ;-)

To my shame I'm not reading... I'm writing a diploma and just can't see any typed text, I listen to child's books before going to sleep these days - The wind in the willows - I was deprived of such a book in my childhood, not it's a true pleasure to be listening to the stories of The Mole and Toad and Water Rat...

Cypress, how's the baby? :-D

He is fine; keeps me busy. Thank you for asking.
I'm not reading anything now either. In fact, I'm not doing many things I used to do. On the other hand, I am doing many new things that I had never done before... and I really enjoy it {-;

Melek, what got you interested in Hamsun?

I just finished reading the Twilight series. I liked it but not as much as I like the Harry Potter series. Maybe because they hyped it so much.

But I enjoyed it since I love reading about vampires.

I just finished reading (again) A Time to Kill by John Grisham. I consider this one of the most powerful novels out there. I'm a big fan of John Grisham and this is the first book by him that I read. I remember when I first started reading it how amazed I was at how he tells the story. I was hooked after reading the first page.

I just finished reading "The Transition Game". It's a book about the Hoosiers which is basically Indiana basketball. I've always had this fascination about how big basketball is in Indiana. It's a good book on how basketball there transitioned from traditional to hip hop era.

I just finished reading the book "Deception Point" by Dan Brown and I'm a little bit disappointed. It's not as good as Angels and Demons and Da Vinci code. Maybe that's why I'm disappointed. I kept comparing it to the two books. I can't help myself though. :)

This book disappointed me as well. I had read the other 3 when I read Deception Point, and it was really boring. I didn't enjoy it as much as the others.

Anyway I have just finished reading Stieg Larsson's The Girl Who Played With Fire, the second novel of his Millennium trilogy. I'm getting the third one today and will start reading right away!

Yeah. What's the title of the other one? I didn't like it because it basically had the same formula as the Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons but it wasn't that gripping compared to the two.

I also like reading books about famous people especially athletes and rappers. It's very inspiring. :)

My all time favorite TV series is "24". Then I also watch Chuck, Supernatural, How I met your mother, Ghost Whisperer, and a lot more! You?

So that we're on topic, I'm currently reading book 7 of the Harry Potter series. I just finished watching the movie about book 6 and I just wanted to re-read book 7 again.

I own a copy. Read it last year and didn't like it. My mom, on the contrary, is a fan of Grisham, I believe she's read all his books.

A couple weeks ago I finished Paulo Coelho's The Winner Stands Alone, and now I'm reading Agatha Christie's The Secret Adversary. It's the first time I read Christie, and I like it so far.

Oh, your mom is a fellow Grisham fan! If she has a copy, I suggest you read "A time to kill", "Pelican Brief" and "The Firm". Those are my favorites. I like "Playing for Pizza" because I love sports and the story is different from what he usually writes.

I like Paulo Coelho. I haven't read that book though.

Hemingway uses big words for poetic reasons. But you'll learn a lot. Just Google the definition of words that you don't understand and you should be fine. :)

Well, since I've only read Playing for Pizza and Skipping Christmas I guess I can't judge. I loved the latter, by the way. If you say the former is different from his usual style, I guess I should give him another try ;-)
