The Magician's Elephant by Kate DiCamillo, very simple story yet captivating. I finished it within hours which I had not done it for a long time, because I wanted to know how my guess would end.

wow I love Brontes; Charlotte & Anne.
They`re incredible.
Now I finished a book by Cecelia Ahren " Where rainbows end".
I admire the concept of true friends. At the beginning I thought it`s just for teenagers but when I kept reading it I relised the words beyond the lines.
Don`t miss it

'Tis, by Frank McCourt. I've got his three autobiographies (Angela's Ashes, 'Tis and Teacher Man) and I absolutely adore him. I was shocked by the news of his death last year.

Oscar Wilde "The Picture of Dorian Gray".
An easy to read book. I would advise it to lower intermediate learners.

The latest book I read was Fall of Giants by Ken Follett. In the last months I read three books from the same author: The Pillars of the Earth and World Without End. The Trilogy of Millenium by Stieg Larsson was in my hands not long ago.
All of them totally recommended.

I've read all of them except Fall of the Giants, which I'm expecting to read soon. Happy to read you again.
Fall of the Giants is a recommendable book, but, sincerely I prefer The Pillars of the Earth, even World Without End!!!. Fall of the Giants lacks the depth and definition of the characters that Ken Follett gave to the Pillars of the Earth.
By the other hand, all what I say is my personal opinion. You know this is very subjective.
Bye!!

Well, I absolutely loved The Pillars of the Earth but didn't enjoy World Without End as much. I think Fall of the Giants won't be any better, so I won't hurry to get it. I will read it eventually some time.ArnauEstanyol wrote: Hi

Has you seen The Pillars of the Earth on television?
If your answer is affirmative, what's your opinion?
About Larsson: Is a pity he died. We lost a great writer that we have known too late.

I didn't see it on TV; I directly downloaded it and burned it into DVDs. I usually do that with TV series and watch them comfortably from my couch. I did like it, of course, it very accurate, although of course I always like the books best.ArnauEstanyol wrote:

Oh, great!! It's exactly what I do with the movies I like. But as you, I prefer a good book than a film, mainly because it's very difficult express the history of a book into a movie. All movies I've saw based upon a success book it has been, for me, a disappointment. The first film I saw based in a book was "The fourth Protocol" written by Frederick Forsyth, one of the my favourites writers. Once read the novel, the film sucks. Other example is the Millenium trilogy: the books very good, but the films....
I want thank you for your kindness. Excuse my spelling mistakes...

I am rereading: One, No one and One hundred Thousand by Luigi Pirandello.
I advise you to read it.
It can help to understand how we often understimate other people and don't become aware of what other really think of us.

Alberto Manguel- The library at night
It is a nice book which promotes the love for reading. I recommend it. You will be prompt to think about all books you have read, to think about the sense of going to library and having your own library.

I have wasted my money buying the most disgusting book I have ever read: "Signora da Vinci" by Robin Maxwell.
It is the apotheosis of banality and some people call it: "an historical book!!!"

Re: What is the latest book you have read recently?
The last one was The Book on the Taboo Against Knowing Who You Are, by Alan Watts. Here's a quote:
Before that I read George Martin's Clash of Kings.“Peace can be made only by those who are peaceful, and love can be shown only by those who love. No work of love will flourish out of guilt, fear, or hollowness of heart, just as no valid plans for the future can be made by those who have no capacity for living now.”
Wow, this one's great. Huxley's Doors of Perception/Heaven and Hell is worth reading too.Lara wrote:the last book i read was "Brave New World" by Aldous Huxley, i advise u to read it
