Hi everyone. I need some help with short stories. I have classes with 5th year students here (aged 18-20) and I need some great short stories to use in class. I want stories with ideas and points and stories that we can discuss as we go along. So far some of our topics have been suicide, crime, insanity, escapism and hope. If anyone has any great suggestions to make I will be happy to read them.

Thank you very much.

Auldous Huxley

"Young Archimedes" - a heart-breaking story about how a small and talented boy became a toy in the hands of adults. This is probably the only title I can remember now. But the whole impression of Huxley I remember as very pleasant.

Poe

The Murders in the Rue Morgue - this is a short-stroy that is called the fisrt detective one in the literature. And many other that all have something to discuss.... like "The Man of the Crowd"...

Don't want to read "Dubliners" with them, Butler?

Elena has a bunch of stories posted in this forum and Creative Writing, I think. You can take a look to see whether you can use them or not.

How funny, it came to me last night, the idea of sharing The Dubliners with them. I love that book, great stories and for me being Irish its great fun.
