Hello. I'm Japanese.
In Japan,we eat "Osechi"on New Year's Day.
There are many kinds of food in Osechi.
For example,herring roe,mashed sweet potatos with sweetened chetsnuts,konbu seaweed,fish paste,grilled shrimp,and so on.
Each of them has a meaning. Shrimp reminded me of an old man bent over which means long life for it.
In addition,we eat "Osechi" , a soup with rice cake in it.
And we eat "soba" on the New Year's Eve.
