Ballroom dancing at México is too popular. Every saturday people of all economic and social conditions go to the Saloons in order to dance, only dance because those places don´t sale alcohol, only Coke or similar. In that places at México city you can see dancing to getter a bussinesman wit a maid, and old woman with a teen. only for one reazon, the love for dancing. Here are some images.

Nice images, Elba. Thanks. Do you do ballroom dance? To me I think ballroom dances should be taught in school as an elective subject beside PE. It would leave more choices for students to choose than just run 4 laps today and so. Besides, ballroom dancing brings out the elegance, sophistication, exquisiteness and culture in each individual.
By the way, nice nickname. It reminds me of the famous palindrome: "Able was I ere I saw Elba." of Napoleon. Good choice  .

Hi Elba,

here in Germany we only can dream about such dance saloons! They are seldom here or you’ll find only some in the real big cities.

One reason is, that many, many people (mostly men :-() says: Dancing is a fool sport! Don’t ask me why. I love ballroom dancing (especially Vienna Waltz, Quick Stepp and Cha Cha) - and I know you need a good condition (I danced more than 14 years in a dancing club).
Of course we have lot of discos - but there isn’t ballroom dancing possible. Sometimes there are dancing events similar your dancing saloons. But there you’ll only meet people over 60 years old and the according music to that.

I agree with LennyeTran. We have sport classes at school - why not with dancing? Perhaps then they would learn, that it isn’t a fool sport at all! And maybe some of these teenagers would learn at least to straighten their back and not to scuffle ;-).

 I would definitely choose you if I had to choose a partner to go dancing. I'm an amateur, though.
My uncle and aunt taught me and my cousins to dance when we were little, but we haven't gone dancing so I'm not quite sure how much we remember.

There is a competitive ballroom dancing on ABC right now. And they showed a short video of kids learning ballroom dancing in school. It was so cute. Let me try to find that video to share it with you.

Lennye,

At México people used to put two names to childs. My name is Elba Rosa, my last name is Hernández Hernández, because the last name of my father is Hernández and the last name of my mother was Hernández. Only coincidence, they weren´t relatives.

AspinArgel, I know in Europe there are contest about ballroom dancing, specially latinmusic dancing like cha cha cha, tango, salsa, etc.
If you dance for 14 years you should be a great dancer. Yu should come to Mexico in order to know the tradicional saloons.
Here is a saying for a famous salool: Who don´t know the Angeles Saloon, don´t know Mexico.
Saloons are part of the popular culture of my country.

@LennyeTran: When I read your offer I sniffed, because the only dance willing man is living so far from here ;-). But guess what happened yesterday? I’ve got the best bargain from a fleamarket: A great dancer! Really!
I strolled with my friend (an active non-dancer :-() over the fleamarket when I saw a familiar face. I recognized him as one of the best dancers from my dancing club. He is a very well tournament dancer but has had to set out for round about 2 years because of his knee surgery. He asked me, if I have a new dance partner yet and when I denied, he offered me his person, as soon as his doctor will allow him to start dancing again!
I just was speechless :-o - he is a much more better dancer than I’ll ever will be, because I’ve never had any tournament training. With him I’ll have my best personal trainer :-); we decided to train 2 days a week with 2-hours-trainings. Hurra - I’ll be back at the dance floor - soon, I hope.

@ Elba: Thank you - but see above. I am only a just-for-fun-dancer and especially the latin dances are not my best ones. When ever I see a “native” dancing latin dances like Salsa, Mambo, Tango Argention I am becoming big eyes. I’ll never have their easiness (?) to dance with such light feets :-(. And Rumba I really fear - because I’ll never hear the exact tact ;-).
But should I’ll ever come to Mexico I’ll look for the recommended Saloons!

But I have to admit, my dancing skills could be better than my english. Please correct my mistakes immediately. I am just writing from the office (during lunch time) without any dictionary help ;-).

Kind regards,
