 I am a girl,And I like watch football games, especially the World Cup.This morning,my teacher ,who teaches us "English listening" ,asked us to find the reason "Why people like watch football? They look for what?Especially those who just like watch but don't like play it yourself."
I become a little confused when I hears this question.Yes,Why are we enjoy watching football? What can we get from it?Could give me your reason? :)

I got the football fever from my uncle. He screams really loud whenever he watches it. I always thought football was a waste of time until I saw one team was playing (nothing to watch at that time/couldn't switch the channel since he controled the remote/too lazy to get upstairs to watch something I liked). That team was so good, and I found myself getting hooked. I even stayed up all night to watch all the games (they were playing in different time zone).

I watch sports not because of the reason "I know how to play" only. It's not necessary to me to enjoy some sports because I know how to play them. I'll enjoy them because they bring out my emotions. For instance, I'll feel excited to see my favorite team wins or sad if they loses.

I was the only girl in the house discussing football with my uncles here in the States. Now my cousin is here, so I won't feel left out discussing it alone with them.

I'm not into American football, basketball, or baseball. Never care and never try to learn to understand them.

I didn´t like see football games, I hated football games, but some day my boss order me work in the sport desk in the world championship at Italy in 1990. I didn´t anything about the game, but a coworker help me to understand football, since then I like to see the games, but only the games untill the world championshio, local teams seams -in mi opinion- bored and without quality, but the world champioshim is different. you could see the teams and their caracteristics in the way of play, the strategies, etc. It is interesting is like a game of chess. THE WAR!

Ok how do I explain football. Well one of the greatest managers of all time one quoted "Football isn't a matter of life or death, its much more important than that!"
Now this may seem a bit extreme to some but to the majority of football fans it can really fel like that. Football is something that can make you feel like the happiest or sadest person in the world. It can fill you with such happiness as to be impossible to explain. I have seen my Liverpool win the European cup 3 times (I was too young for the other 2) I have seem them win championships and various cups and that feeling you have as the final whistle goes is beyond explaination. The elation and joy, especially when shared among other supporters is somethingvery special, it can bring complete strangers together and of course on the other side that feeling of defeat, especially in a final is heartbreaking, but again it can bring complete strangers together, like a support group if you like.
Football is sexy, passionate, thrilling, inspiring and to some can be compated to a religion. It can create rivalries and enemies but of course can create friendship. Just look at this World Cup, you see people from all over the world coming together to share that day, that moment.
Of course like all sports it isnt perfect, there is an element of cheating and corruption but what we see on the field is the real game, the game of FOOTBALL !!!
