Advice on travel in Australia?

Me and my friend are planning on travelling to Australia next year for a few months and were wondering what the best form of travel is? We realise that public transport won't get us too far and so were wondering whether to rent a car? We have found a website for budget camper vans for 18+ (as we are under 21), however these 'budget' camper vans aren't all that cheap to rent. We were wondering if it would be worth our while buying a car out there and then selling it? However being UK citizens with a UK driving licence were wondering how much or if it's even possible to get insurance for a car??

It depends on where you want to go to and what you want to do. If you are spending a lot of time around the large cities or on the main thoroughfares you may be able to get away with public or paid transport (eg Greyhound buses, Ozexperiences).

Renting is way too expensive, unless you look into something like, well there are apparently deals to be had where you take cars or vans back for example a car is rented in Melbourne and is returned to Sydney and they'll rent it to people to take back for like a $1 a day kind of thing. You would have to dig for these deals but it might get you between the big cities, where transport is a little less than in the cities...

You can buy cars here cheaply and sell when you leave but the cars that are cheap are cheap by name and nature and you may have more output (fixing it up) than not. Plus being under 25 your insurance is going to be higher.

I spent a few months in Australia, and the thing I did to solve the transportation issue was to just buy an old used car. It was great being able to have a car because I was doing a lot of traveling while there. I would recommend doing the same. However, if you are just planning on staying in one city, then you would probably be fine just doing public transportation. It is easy to find a good working used car once you get there, and just be ready to pay cash. If you can, sell the car before you leave, and it is like you never even had to pay for the car. :)

Australia is one of the best country where you can spend your vacations and holidays. I think Sydney, Melbourne and Queensland are the best places in Australia. One of my friend just came back from there and he told me that he stayed in wingshinterlandretreat with his partner and make a lot of fun there.
