HTML, JavaScript

Postby Vega » Tue Jan 22, 2008 1:10 pm

Hello there. Is there anyone interested in Web-design? I am learning HTML and JavaScript, by myself. I'm going to make my own websites someday. (It is kinda my hobby.)

I think HTML isn't very difficult to learn comparing with JavaScript.

If have anything on this, please share with your skills with me.

Hey, I've learnt HTML and JavaScript and other languages at the university. I study Information Systems. HTML is really easy. But JavaScript is a bit more complicated to learn for whose never programmed before. There are lots of little courses and tutorials on the web, take some examples and you will be getting in use with that. But if you have any doubts you can ask me, ok?

html, php, css, I know little. but JavaScript... it isn't same thing as Java language isn't? I'm never been interested about these.. both Java programming language and Java script look to complicated to me.. I think I have only used one javascript:history.go(-1) once in a webpage I made.. Some functions were not fully supported to all browsers so I did not like.. same was actually with css. There was some commands that was some browser specific... but for css and html u can use http://www.w3.org 's valitators to make sure that they are all right(standard).

I download books from the web and learn from them. From time to time I am looking at the HTML codes of some websites too and analyze them..

php seem to be very difficult one to learn. I gave up it. JavaScript is a usefull language, you can do stylish menu buttons on your website, etc.

CSS I think is a part HTML. it lets you set you a specific style for fonts, font-color, etc.

BTW, gentlemen, what HTML editor you use? I am using Arachnophilia.

Yes CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) is used as part of HTML It's very useful.

I don't remember what editor I used in windows. I haven't made any web-page about 5 years  But I used some text editor with syntax highlighting capability.

Actually I have only made one web-page years ago.. I have even forgot my ftp password of that page, so I can't.. access to change it anymore. It's just a simple download page with statistic http://www.zone.ee/he I actually used a free php file-download script with a counter that saves hits to txt file, that I found from net. I added some features i needed.. like upload date and so.. But seems it doesn't show the upload date right, it shows the date of last time when server had maintenance.. I haven't done anything after that, because I found that it's too much trouble to make a web-page all by my self. It's too much easier to use some ready to use GNU CMS (Context Management System).. But since, They usually require full php support from server and database server therefore I haven't pothered myself with those much. I actually had a free account into that kind of server, but I forgot my user id again.. Maybe I was too paranoid and chosed too difficult password. Of course I could set up my own server, but.. do I really need all this trouble... sorry for of topic

C'mon, that's not off-topic. You're right, a modern dynamic website should be automated, have forums, comments, etc...all that requires php. I cannot do all that by myself. :?

However, you don't need to be an expertise in php to have a forum and other dinamic contents in your website. One example is this forum we use here at EC. It's a free model you can get and put in your site. You just need to understand a bit of HTML and about servers to know how to put it in the right place. And there are many other tools on the web to you make your own site.

Yes.. some of these can check out there http://www.opensourcecms.com although I actually think that most of them aren't very useful as for personal homepage. Better result will be using some free php scripts that can find from net and integrate them by your self in ways you like. It would need only little knowledge of php.
php was really difficult to understandfor to me too.. object orientated programming languages are all little hard to me.. and I think there was so many weird variable types and operators, that doesn't exist in most other languages.. probably they are needed in php to make it faster for interpreter.. it was a bit unfamiliar for me.
