Help on English vocab, including idioms, slang and sayings

...I want someone who can keep me on my toes

Anyone know what this means? Thanks in advance.
Pls correct any errors you see on my writings on: nouns, tenses :)

If someone is "on their toes", they aren't relaxed, they are ready for action, they do their best all the time.

    Our teacher often gives us a test without any warning, just to keep us on our toes.
