Hi,

Could you please tell me the English for that special notebook students use when working in groups on different projects (writing about themselves, their hobbies, writing short compositions on a certain topic, pasting different photos/illustrations, newspaper clippings,etc.).
Is it 'English portfolio"?
I need to know the word used by ESL/EFL teachers.

Thanks,
simplythebest

hi, simplythebest -

for personal information, 'portfolio' is ok.

for essays/projects, etc., 'notebook' will work.

for photographs, 'photo album' is correct.

“Portfolio” would be the correct term to use for a book that contains samples of your work. It would typically be used to showcase your accomplishments and skills for a potential employer. Another term that you may use could be “journal” or “work journal”. This would be a more informal collection of your work. Alternately a collection like the one you have described could be called a “scrapbook”.

I hope this is helpful.
