As the name suggests, the United Kingdom is one country made up of former kingdoms.
It is divided into England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Wales.

The full and official name of the country is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Many islands make up the "British Isles" (this is NOT an official "country" name), including: Britain, Ireland, the Isle of Man, the Isle of Wight, the Hebrides, the Orkney Islands, the Shetland Islands, the Scilly Isles and the Channel Islands. "Great Britain" is simply the largest of these islands, and essentially comprises England, Scotland and Wales. Northern Ireland is the northern tip of the island of Ireland.
