Is 'next time' correctly used?

Post by tamguatlay »

Jack was going to the shopping centre with his mother. At the traffic lights he dashed across the road without waiting for his mother to cross. He was almost knocked down by a car.

His mother advised him, "Next time make sure there are no approaching vehicles before you cross the road."

Is 'next time' correctly used? I believe it should be "In future".

Thanks.

"Next time" and "In the future" are both okay. I would probably use "Next time".

"In future" is logically correct since Jack's mother doesn't want her son killed the time after next, or at any time in the future.

However, in practice Jack's mother might very well have said "next time", meaning "in future".

I'm sure Jack got the message anyway
