My grammar isn't good, and probably shouldn't be used as an example; however, I would rephrase the sentence to look something like this:

Although I had already read many scientific case studies and articles on the internet; I first became interest in biology when I was handed a copy of “knowing where to scratch”, as part of my summer homework.

or

As advised by my science teachers, I read many scientific case studies and articles on the internet; however, I first became interest in biology when I was handed a copy of “knowing where to scratch”, as part of my summer homework.
