We don’t have enough informations on the ancient society of Greeks before Homer , but we know that the Greeks had a relegion and Goddess.
By finding some archieological evidence , the specialists that was a Goddess wich the worshipping pray to . around 2200-1900 B.C the Greeks coloniside by nomadic warriors and they brought with them a new Gods actually it’s was the Sky-God(Zeus) . Zeus raped the Earth-Goddess, there’s a variety of stories on the way of the marriage of Zeus.The scientists found a few Idols represent the Goddess of death, they found its in some old graves , by recognizing the form of this stone bodies they found them unsimilliars to each others.some idols looks like a pregnant women and those idols represent the birth-hood and the reborn , they avatared to the power of the Earth-Goddess(Gaia).
On the mainland its was built the Palace-city of Knossos , its has no walls around it , because the people on this island were peaceful, that was in the time of the mythical king Minos . In the walls of the rooms of that palace they found some wall paintnning shows the Gods & Goddess half naked and in some other wall paintings they rides bulls. The bulls symbolize to the men power , and the horns of it represent the womenhood , also this wall paintnning shows the rituals of giving sacrifices.The legend of Minotaur, this myth tells about the story of minotaur who was the result of having a forbiden affair between Minos’s wife and the holy bull ( Minotaur was half man & half bull ).
The Earth-Goddess (Gaia) own some places on Crete where people could pray to her, a natural disaster has destroyed the island , during the earthquake the preists started to gave humain sacrifices to the earth-goddess.
After the civilazation of the Myceneans has destroyed by the Dorians , the result was the birth of a new period named Dark Age .The Dorians were built a new palaces with walls , this group of new Greeks didn’t beleived in the spiritualities . above the end of the Dark Age some marks of the Myceneans came to the surface with a new type of writting and the oral traditions (folklor) of the Myceneans, and that event has written by Homer , he wasn’t the only one who wrote Gods , There’s also Hesiod who talked about the beginning of earth and the birth of Gods & Goddess in his poem THE THEOGONY , he thought that in the beginning of the creation the cosmos was completley in chaos.The poem context that :
Tartaros was one of the primordial objects that sprung from chaos, along with Gaia (Earth) and Eros (Desire) , the Love-lust, the last one has very important to the Greeks because they beleived that the world has came by series of birth.
Kronos hated his father because he brought his children back into the earth. Gaia(Earth) felt uncomfortable because of the twelve super-beings inside her. Kronns cut the genitals of his father by a jagged sickle, then he swoop and tossed them behind him.after along observation to the situation Gaia & Kronos noticed that they started by a wrong beginning.After the cutting of the genitals of Ouranos they fall into the sea , the white foam collaberated around them , the resulting of that collabration was the birth of a new Goddess Aphrodite (Goddess of love ).
Kronos married Rhea his sister , she delivered six Gods from the royal family of the Greek Gods (the Olympians).Kronos swallowed his babies as soon as they were born,Rhea hated the behavior of her husband , she decided to hide the last child (Zeus) in cave with the assistance of her mother Gaia,she replaced the baby by a stone and gave it to Kronos to eat it.Zeus forced his father Kronos to throw up the other children. Zeus swallowed his first wife because she was pregnant by his first baby.
Each god have his own Myth , his own story which tell about his personality and what he is responsible on , and the kind of power they have , the conflicts between each others and the dirty affairs . . .
The Greek History is unseparated from Myths, it’s based on the Stories of Gods & Goddess and because it have a strong realtionship with relegion.The Myth has played a big role in the life style of the ancients societies specialy in the Greek community.
