I just found out that, besides the city of Hong Kong we all know, there is also an island called Hong Kong. Can any Chinese member here explain that? I didn't know about that island.

yeah..in my opinion, that Hongkong is composed of New territories, Kowloon and Hongkong island.
and i do agree with violet..
for example, the suburb and the street names are the same..
i.e. Rosbery Street, Rosbery NSW
there is a suburb named Rosbery, inside the Rosbery suburb, there is a street named Rosbery Street..
