BRUCE LEE (11/27/1940-07/20/1973)

I don't get why he has been dead for around two decades and people still like him. What is so great about this guy that he has lived beyond time? His kung-fu, talented skills as a martial artist, philosopher, movie producer and actor??? I think it has to be those.
He was born in San Francisco, California in 1940 and came back to Kowloon, Hong Kong in 1941. Some other websites provide his biography stated that he came back to Hong Kong when he was three. I don't know which one is right, so I'm just gonna say, he came back to Hong Kong around the age of one to three.
In 1959, he came back to the States to complete his high school education. Then he went to college choosing philosophy as his major--he met his wife there.
After college, he enacted in a television series called the Green Hornet. During his returning to Hong Kong, he had two of his feature films done, a stepping stone of his fame later on, others believe so.
He had been in a lot of movies before his death, which is still a mystery to people. There were several rumors about his tragic death which were related to Hong Kong triads, other martial artists, or he was cursed. The curse was also carried to his son's death based on other people's belief. They believed that his family was cursed by evil spirits.
No matter what is the cause of his death he is still a "Little Dragon" in his fans' hearts. I don't know why, but maybe I'm not a fan of his kung-fu moves ; I'm more of a Jet Li's fan. Personally speaking, I don't think I would have known about him if my cousin didn't watch his movies and imitated his moves with two-, three-section cudgel. (I've tried it once and I got hit with that thing. I think I was swinging too hard because it hurt like hell. )

BRUCE LEE

Bruce Lee is a man of legend. Although, he had only 5 movies, but these movies are still valuable in many ways. If you want to know why he is so valuable to Hong Kong or Asia, I think it may be related to the history of Hong Kong. Please let me try to explain the reasons.

Before 1997, Hong Kong was governed by British Government, In 60’s to 70’s, the problems of corruption, drugs and mafia (triads) were very serious, but the British Government was not able to control or solve these problems. Also people from British seemed to be more important then local Hong Kong people as they were usually appointed as superior or higher level in Government department. These situations were so unfair, or it could be described as discrimination to local people. Thus, local peoples needed a hero. A hero could beat bad guy.

He is a hero - as you can see from his movie that Bruce Lee acted as a hero in all of his movies; there were also something in common, most of his enemies were foreigner, drug dealer or member of mafia (triads). He beat them in his movies for his audience in order to fulfil their imaginations, because most of them could not do in their real life.

Confidence – When Bruce is in fighting, you can see his confidence from his eyes. It seems that he had confident to beat any enemies no matter how tall they are (Enter the Dragon - he fought with 7 feets tall black martial art master) or how strong they are (Fist of Fury – He fought with the best martial art master of US in Colosseum at the end of the movie).

Attitudes – He did much research for improving his skill of martial art. He also invented his own style, namely Jeet Kune Do. He did not stop learning but try to find the way to improve.

These were essential elements for every people in Hong Kong to fright for better future at that time even in nowadays.

I love your Bruce Lee's introduction. A lot of information you're providing I didn't know about it until I read your post. Thanks Chet for your participation .
