have and of ??

Post by 94BANSHEE »

hi. is there any difference in meaning between using "have" or "of" in the following situations ??

1.He shouldn't have gone to the party.

2. He shouldn't of gone to the party.

also:

couldn't have vs. couldn't of
mightn't have vs. mightn't of
wouldn't have vs. wouldn't of

thanks!!

The forms with 'of' are all incorrect: the word that sounds like 'of' when spoken is simply a phonetic corruption of 'have'!
