lay through?

Postby pdh0224 » Thu Sep 30, 2004 9:30 pm

Dear teacher,

Some might expect Eden Espinosa to play down that her road to Broadway lay through Los Angeles theme parks.

Q : What is the function and meaning of "lay" in the sentence?

All the best, :)

It is the main verb of the subordinate clause 'that her road...Broadway' and is the past tense of 'lie'.
