Post by simonwai99 »

Hi teachers,
i am realy confused with reported speech
are there any sites for me to look into reported speech

7. Phil asked me: "Were you at the party, too?"
Phil asked me ._______________________

9. Ann asked Kate: "Did you really write this story?"
Ann asked Kate ._______________________.

I found these 2 sentences on a site
my answers are if i had been at the party too (7)
and she had really written that story.(9)

But i got them wrong
since there are no answers provided
so i am here to ask for help

Strictly speaking, #1 should be '...if I HAD BEEN at the party too'.

Informally (and esp. in AmE), however, unshifted preterites are often encountered.
