With a date?

Postby pdh0224 » Fri Oct 22, 2004 7:53 am

Dear teacher,

Fasting during this time is one of the five pillars of Islam, along with devotion to Allah, prayer, giving alms and visiting Mecca. Ramadan commemorates Allah's revelation of the Koran to Muhammad. It is believed that Muhammad broke his fasting in this period with a date.

Q :what does "with a date" stand for? Is it an idiom?

All the best,
