'used to' and aspect

Post by googl »

Dear teacher,

'I used to be nice' is correct. Is 'I used to be doing' correct? (continuous?) Or must we use an adjective after 'be'?

[used to be -ing] is certainly a possible construction in English, although it's fairly rare. However, you could use it to say e.g.

I always used to be watching TV when my parents came home, so they thought that I never did any homework!
