A difference "not to" between "to not"

Postby pdh0224 » Tue Oct 26, 2004 10:39 pm

Dear teacher,

What is a difference "Not + to-infinitive verb" and " To+ Not + infinitive verb"?

All the best,

Purists will tend to avoid the second, as it involves a so-called 'split infinitive' - grammatically sound, but widely regarded as stylistically inelegant when done needlessly or to excess.
