WHITE POINTER SHARKS LIKE S.A. SURFERS!!!!

Postby Shazzam » Mon Sep 26, 2005 7:36 am

Over the last few months there have been numerous attacks on Surfers and swimmers in South Australia (and a couple in Western Australia).

In the past two weeks there have been three attacks in South Australia.

One was fatal; killing a young diver. Two weeks ago a man was attacked whilst surfing in South Australia and managed to fight the shark off. Yesterday another young surfer was attacked by a 4m Great White in South Australia. He also managed to fight the shark off and is in hospital.

They are supposed to be an endangered species? The attacks i'm referring to aren't the only ones this year. In the past few months there has been 3 fatalities and 3 near misses.

Wow these sharks must be hungry.

Theory has it that sharks don't like the taste of humans. It is a little late for them to find out once they have bitten you in half.

I told my husband most people say that about McDonalds burgers (don't like the taste) but they will still eat one if they are hungry enough. Maybe the sharks are starting to get used to the taste of us.

I've read that sharks don't specifically seek out for humans. They usually mistake humans as preys because of the moving of the legs under water. However, there was an article I've read that some sharks specifically seek out for humans as their preys. Let me find the article if I have time this week.

Don't you think that it irrelevant weather sharks like humans or not? They kill us anwway.

We should be doing our best to exterminate them. One human is worth more than all the sharks in the world.

Eliminating an entire species is not the answer, but maybe some research to determine if the number of these sharks (great whites) has increased to an extent that we need to do some culling. I mean we do it with Kangaroos when they become a menace.

The information provided to the public is that they were an endangered species; so they have been left alone. The amount of attacks, sitings etc in the last seven months has been huge. I don't believe that the numbers are decreasing at all. I think they are increasing.

I can understand what you are saying though Danyet; my husband gets pretty annoyed about it too; as they don't seem to search for the shark after the attack anymore; they used to. There will always be a debate over the best way to handle these sorts of situations. The GREENIES go off their heads at the mention of culling! :?

I recently watched an experiment done on television to see if Great Whites lurched out of the water for their prey. It showed that they tend to attack surfboard riders because from below with the board the shape it is they think they are seals.

Also divers are at risk because of their dark wetsuits and flippers. I'm not sure about all this as they say that sharks are basically blind; they hunt by using their senses. So why would they say we LOOK like seals on surfboards; if the sharks can't see and are using the sense of smell etc? :?

I think that the so called scientists are only guessing at why a shark attacks. It makes no difference really. They attack. We have our "greenies" to thank for the rise in attacks. They insist on thrusting their ideology of ALL life being equal, on the public because of their refusal to believe that God created humankind in His Own image.
I went to school with a boy who had 200 stitches around his back, to under his arm along and his ribs towards his chest. He survived a shark attack.

Oops, I didn't mean exterminate them right away. I meant right after you go swimming off the coast of South Australia.

Good grief! How lucky was he. You don't get a chance to met too many survivors of shark attacks...

Well I will still go into the surf I love it. I must admit I would never surf in South Australia (or around the Great Australian Bite) or South of Perth. It has been well publicised over the years that it is heavily populated with Great White Sharks.

Why risk it?

Well, I don't swim around there. That's why swimming pools are made for.
