Teaching and Learning English in Africa

Postby joedev1 » Thu Dec 15, 2005 4:57 am

Hi,

I would like to know more about teaching in Africa and about how people learn English in various countries. I am now teaching in China but in the future... who knows?

I'm looking forward to hearing your stories!

here in BENIN a country in Africa the education is praticsed mostly by teachers who are not the grade; who are not the competence to take tthe form of the class that they are. This happens especially in private school . In public school , before the goverment chooses the teachers (who are competent) but pay they bad salaries at most 75000 F CFA= 125 euros )

But now the government lets the liberty to the director of the school to choose the teacher
and they take teacher who are not competent.

I love the idea of teaching English in Africa.
I would like to know which is the most common language I might want to learn...a common tongue if there is one such, to understand the African...I know that there are hundreds of different dialects but is Swahili for example a good language to learn in order to understand a large majority of African peoples?
Yed? Should I try to learn one dialect for example to be a better interpreter of the language? If the oppurtunity should ever arise.
Also where do you suggest to me to live in Africa? To teach where it will help the most?
Anyone?
