The answers to serving the worlds problems and to stop the starvation of little children....and their parents for that matter...are not easy but something could be done by every human person, on a daily basis, if they really truely do care...with some investigation into the problems and thinking on possible solutions...with some research into which charities are doing the most, for Africa, and a new discussion, about what to do, possibly how to boycott those who are exploiting African nations...and the people of the African continant, by any means.
By the way about Americans ...we are lazy so...why don't cha just kill us?
Nobody ever proposes anything better to co with our time but to go to the movies and go dancing and out to eat and....well I am biased so...i will shut up because I live in babylon USA....anyway I was a hippy once and we did nothing but talk about it even then....we are very easily distracted by so much else to do in a day than figuring out the problems of the other countries but then are they concerned with our mess...i seriously doubt that everyone cares about my problems enough to do anything about them...so I do what i can... wit what i got, and baby that aint much...I mistakenly took a vow of poverty at a young age...it lasted until I recently decided I could 'ave done more helpful things for others with some of the green stuff.
Personally I would build wells in all towns that have no access to clean water for starters...then I would do something with perhaps growing food in water hydrophonics if there an abundance of it to be tapped into....since the soil may be unable to grow food in many places...then I would do something to introduce wind and solar energy to these suffering communities and show them small ways to improve the life of the community, but then I am a big dreamer, I will probably only have to watch excitedly while others with money get to do these things.
DOCTORS are a desire I suppose in the areas where people are not doing well. The environment of which these people are speaking is not all of Africa. Garam...That is a given but you seem to be angry at the people who care so ...I suggest you bitch out the people who dont give a damn insted.
I believe that the world is changing and I am hoping it will be a positive result where the person of little means is concerned.
on the other hand I wont be surprised if the selfishness grows until we all get choked out either...by greenhouse gases.
peace out...small time american

I do understand what Garam was saying but I'm still offended because I have cried for the plight of my human family so many countless times and it may seem like an indulgence to some to me it was pure heart broken-ness and grief...it is not nice to laugh at a persons real expressions of feeling, of sympathy...affected by the pain of the hurting person...if i can relate to their plight I may cry for them, even if they may happen to be be living on another continant.
In other words do not suggest that my caring was ever false....the fact I have no means to change it beyond what I have suggested in its minutist details in my last post...sorry but I still do suffer with the one who suffers.
No one can tell me the pain I feel for others is wrong.

I also realise that part of the tears come from living in such a selfish world and the resulting anger, repressed within, over the faults of the wealthy, who do not do enough to effect change where it is required for a healthier planet..

by tikay:

(FOR ALL PEOPLE TO CONSIDER)
"MORE RESPECT"

You are MY Cousins
this I know...
because the life blood of love
OF LIFE
it tells me so....

<<<RESPECT>>> (Heard quietly in background)

(drums beat riteously)

You are my friend and far away
I love you though we never met
we are a family
family of man....woman
family of children

<<<RESPECT>>>

African child you were made of time
of love and you insist
on getting some respect
you are a soul of light
you came here to die

[color=brown]<<<RESPECT>>>

leaving the worst of men
wit' dat look...there in your eyes
the rest of us we see...you
we see and maybe we
cry and cry but being small too

<<<RESPECT>>>

we can do nothing
but we see YOU, and we
LOVE you child, we do!
we have cried and died too, with you...
a death of hope, a loss of love for those
in power, those who could
who...well....
WE WOULD GIVE MUCH
we would ...in their position!

<<<RESPECT>>> (Quietly)

in their place we would feed you sons
of Mother Africa...(RESPECT)
daughters of the SUN
gods of your situation,
you come herefor a minute
to see and then you leave ...
you leave with one...
with the ONE who sent you

<<<RESPECT!>>> LOUD AND STRONG)

ONE LOVE
ONE PEACE
ONE PLACE
WE EXIST
WE EXIST
WE EXIST

WE WOULD FEED THEE!
CHILD OF THE SUN

MUCH RESPECT!
I LOVE THEE
CHILD OF AFRICA!

<<<NO ONE WILL EVER DISPLACE MY TRUE CONNECTION TO AFRICA AND NO ONE CAN TELL ME I DO NOT LOVE AFRICAN PEOPLE>>>

ok ok!

i may have been a little harsh, but i do stand firm.
in reply to the last post i would have to answer with a positive NO! africa does not need those things!

what it does need is... stronger socialist governments. less debt. less indirect US (i.e. world bank and imf fiscal policies) intervention. less direct US intervention (think mogadishu, somalia). less bleeding liberal hearts (think steve biko and black concsiousness, think franz fanon).

giving money to charities is not the answer! just have a look at how most of the charities spend their money! the phrase "you can give a man a fish or teach him to catch his own" comes to mind.

by no means do i have the answers or wish to change the world. i merely am trying to point out the latent hypocrosy that is at play. everybody loves luxuries no doubt, but then please dont go on about how it makes you so sad to see these kids! just stop being so useless and do something. a good start would be to educate as why the current situation exists. i would gladly direct you to some good books on histoy, political theory, and philosophy. try david landes "wealth and poverty of nations" then franz fanon's "black skin, white mask". then tell me what you think that africa needs...

thanks...do you mind if I ask for your age?
it is the context of how clever you seem to be.

I was not intending to seem crass, just wanted to reference the past and wondered how far back your memory flies....I was born in 1962, so I have a referance point....about some things you speak about.

people can decide for themselves if charities are all bad...or some are truly helping people.

okay I have been waiting to see if you were still around and were willing to answer my question...but I guess it really isn't terribly important because our thoughts ...this is what is important here....and the only problem I have with your argument is that you appear to be very much in your head....and possibly sneering at those who have some heart,
therefore, if you are so terribly academic, why not give a more knowledgeable explanation, yourself, about what you propose to be the best for this inconprehensible situation. We all know the gist of what could/should happen in the starving nations. And we are pretty sure that your country is extremely varied and there are more than these extremely conflicted countries of the African Continant. But these countries were the ones we were referancing... and the peoples who are suffering from the lack of healthy food and systems pointing toward sustainability...not those places that are doing fairly well thanks to Nelson Mandela and people like him who have suffered much for these changes.

I will guess that you are Egyptian and/or wealthy, please tell me, am I wrong?

If I were living in your town would I be hearing about (people like myself) All those clowns in other countries who have no idea of the situation? I suppose I could possibly hear about such things all day long...but it is useless to try to make people who care feel like idiots, isn't it? Mainly because we have so many great ideas, about certain conflicts. It is just funding or cold hard cash and thus the ability to pursue our dreams... that so many of us do not have. But we still have hearts.

If you were telling me that I was too ignorant to speak on the subject...for me to read those books and not to post until i have read up, well, that is just...a bit too arrogant for my sensibilities, (but I have done the same thing once) and I would then be sure to tell you where to look for articles on developing compassion, and perhaps one or two on the latest brain research, before I would ever even want to hear from you again...but lets just call it a truce. (is this cityyoung?)

No one should tell people how to feel. This is just plain good common sense stuff.
That is very elitist. Therefore I suppose you are bred with the rich....who will also tell one how to pick their nose in a proper manner...but one just seems to know how without any help at all. Some things are known without any needed research aren't they now?

hey hey

thats not fair!
i didnt tell u my age cause i dont think that its relevant. i still dont. cause if i did you would start to make all sorts of judgements about me (thats not saying that you havent already).

as far as academic arrogance goes... what about emotional arrogance?????????

the reason i point out this literature is because it deals with these exact subjects. i was not trying to play down anybody's good intentions as i am sure they were very heart-felt and sincere.

as a matter of fact, i am not so stone-hearted as u probably think. i have tried to help in hands on operations. i have helped build eco-sustainable vegetable gardens in townships that are more poor than you could ever imagine, and seen (first hand) my fair share of poverty and despair.
it was for this very reason that i came to the conclusions that i have come to.

oh and by the way, i dont live in egypt. i do however tell people not to pick their noses.
i am a kindergarden teacher

hey thanks for answering...I was wondering about your age for the reasons I spoke of. If you have experience, then you have it. If you were just being overly intellectual, that was okay too, but do not tell others they dont care when they do and...maybe tell us what you think would be a good solution, how must an outsider contribute??? How can we actually help, especially when we sometimes dont even have savings to speak of ?
Sadly, I have never been able to do what I would like for others... I barely pay my bills, but I still want to think when i get some dough...if I do, then I will do something to help....any concrete suggestions?

will you say where you hail from?

not so that I can hate you !...so that i might understand you!
humbly...t.k.

Yes, I know is terrible these poor boys, but We don't have to blame anybody else. We better can join a group to help them. There are many foundations where we can send money to help them.
