I found this question interesting so I looked it up. There are around 40-50 thousand varieties or rice worldwide, that are known, but only around 800 types are cultivated. Interesting.

I looked it up and finally found it in the Encarta Encyclopedia.
Correction: Only a few hundred are cultivated. Sorry for that mistake, I must've been thinking about something else.

I eat rice as European and other nationality eat breads or potatoes.
I know that there are 3 types of rice. One is Japonica rice, which is sticky rice, but Japanese people eat this every day. Second one is Indica rice, which serve when you go to the U.S., South East Asian country. It is good for fried rice. The third one is rice for making rice cake. We called is "Mochi-gome" in Japanese. It is more sticky than Japonica rice, it is for making rice cake.
Actually I know all about this about rice. If there are som mistake in this comment or you know some more rice in the world, I would like to know about it!

Basmati rice, when cooked properly, is the most delicious in the world! I've prepared this type of rice for all my friends and they all swear it was their favourite.

There is a rice named Condoleeza. It is dark, dry and mucho picante (even it is does not seem at first sight).

This dark rice in a white plate creates an harmony.

I don't know how good would that be, but biryani my coworker's mom used to make was extremely yummy delicious. I even told him if he asked his mom to make me another dish, I'd go on a date with him. He said the only way his mom would make me one was for me to marry him. Geezzz, the dude knew how to turn a cute girl down.

If you could make a dish that girls wanted to date you, then you'll know your cooking is good.

Over a dish of rice? If that had been the case, I should have married his mom then. She was the one who cooked and he got the credit.

I can cook rice. 8) My mom thinks my rice is yummy. It comes out all white, steamy, and hot. You have to eat it more than one bowl when you're extremely hungry.
