Lets talk about Colombia

Postby Elba » Fri Aug 04, 2006 10:35 pm

Dear friends from arround the wordl I feel verry sorry because of my lateness in my principal work in this forum, wich is give information about my beautiful continent "Latin America".
This week is the turn to Colombia.
I know much people think in drugs every time someone mention Colombia, but belive me, Colombia is mor that a gram or hundreds of kilograms of Cocaine.
Colombia is:

A country in northwestern South America. It's bordered to the east by Venezuela and Brazil, to the south by Ecuador and Peru, to the North by the Atlantic Ocean and to the west by Panama and the Pacific Ocean.
Colombia's name references the explorer Christopher Columbus. The name was conceived by the revolutionary Francisco de Miranda as a reference to the New World, especially to all American territories and colonies under Spanish and Portuguese rule. The name originally belonged to a short-lived republic consisting of present-day Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, and Panama (see Great Colombia). This republic collapsed in 1830 when Venezuela and Ecuador separated, and the Cundinamarca region which remained became a new country, the Republic of New Granada. In 1863 New Granada changed its name officially to United States of Colombia, and in 1886 adopted its present day name: Republic of Colombia.

But Colombia is: this
And this
and much more.

I saw Fernando Botero collection

Postby Gusbatero » Fri Aug 18, 2006 8:30 pm

Hi Elba,
A few weeks ago I visited the Bellas Artes Museum of Buenos Aires, the most important art museum of Argentina.
There was a very special gallery with a Fernando Botero collection. It was very interesting, besides the theme of the collection, wich was about the violence in Colombia.
This collection of 50 paints and drawings are very contrasting, because of it colorful but the sadness of the theme. It show murders, tortures and people suffering the social and political reality of Colombia.
Even though, me and my family could enjoy a very important and contemporary artist.

Gusbatero, is nice for me that a man from Argentina post a reply here.
Peoplefrom Argentina and from Peru, Ecuador, Chile, Brasil, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Colombia, and all the latinamerican continent is what we need here in order to show to the world the real face of Latinamerica.
I know Fernando Botero, his paints, his topics. I know about the violence at Colombia, Mexico, Guatemala. I know the problems at Argentina, Chile, Brasil, etc.
But I know there are things that mass media never say about us, and my objetive is let the world know about it.
I don´t want to talk only about good things I want every EC member from latinamerica talk about the reality in his/her every country.
I would like you talk about Argentina and let us know good and bad things and I hope ypu accept my invitation.
