Abe Saffron - Famous Kings Cross identity Dead at 87

Postby Shazzam » Fri Sep 15, 2006 7:12 am

Abe Saffron had died aged 87 years. News article below. A very interesting character. A little bit like Sydneys GODFATHER! (not in a nice way).

Oh shoot, have you told me about this? Don't tell me you have because it seems like I didn't pay attention, but I did, I do, and I will.

I knew that you knew him but I didn't know about the henchmen.

I probabaly told you in person. The guys I knew were (and I don't mind saying their names here because they are criminals that I hope are either dead or in gaol) Lon Keogh, a two bit hood who was a low man in the Abe Saffron hierchy. Peter Redford (alias Pickford and a couple of other names I have forgotten). Redford, I was told by the security agency hired to protect me, was a suspected freelance hitman who sometimes worked for Saffron. It was said that he had no record and kept a low profile but he did one or two hits a year and never used the same gun twice. He had a wife and a kid or two. I know this because I called his house at least once.

The detetive that I spoke to at my local police station did not know of Redford but when I asked if he had heard of Keogh his eyed lit up and said, "Know him? I wouldn't spit on him". And then he wanted to know how I got tangled up with him.

I knew of Abe Saffron when I was going out an about when I lived in Sydney. Everyone had heard of him he literally ran Kings Cross (I think he owned the then named "Texas Tavern"). I know that he was definately the 'under ground '. I didn't know that you had people after you though. But I do remember you mentioning that you new him. That is pretty heavy Danyet. It must have been a very frightening time. :(

The Texas Tavern was my favorite breakfast and coffee hang out.

I will not be on EC very much for a while as I have moved into the Nevada desert for a while and have to use Library internet when available. I will check in later!!
