Potato omlette sounds delicious :D. How do you prepare it, Dixie? Is it made of potato flower or fresh potatoes? Or do you mean tortillas? I love Spanish tortillas, they are sooo yummie

In my country Röschti is one of the best known meals, some sort of crunchy baked potatoe pieces.

Switzerland !

I've already talked about "fondue" and "raclette" (let you see the cheese topic).

There is "le gâteau saviésan" (the Saviesan cake) :

Savièse is a village near Sion (Sion is the main city of Valais ; Valais is one of the 26 cantons/provinces in Switzerland ; let you search for Switzerland on the map  ). This village is very attached (conservative ? ) to its traditions (music, history, patois, cooking ; le patois is a special francophon language. There are different sorts of patois, for example, le patois de Savièse, very known in Valais (every Valaisan recognizes it but rare are the people who can still speak it)).

For example :

Standard french => Patois de Savièse

Bonjour => Boundzo (Good morning)
Comment vas-tu ? => Comin té va-t-e ? (how are you ?)you see that it near italian)
aussi => achebën (,too)
Veux-tu boire ? => Ou-to bire ? (Do you want to drink ?)
...

I did not find photos of le gateau saviésan but I will describe you how to make it :

You need :

a squared plate,
two squared puff pastries,
potatoes (1 kg should be enough  )
leeks (maybe 4-6 branches)
grated cheese (maybe 300-500 g. it depends on you  )
some condiments (at least pepper but you can add some pimento, curry, parsley, chives, very-small-cut oignon...)
patience and effort and smile and music

First put the oven on (220-250 for my oven... but it depends strongly on the oven...)

Prepare your ustensils, knives, peeler (to peel potatoes), etc. Make you cook plan free.

Put the first squared puff pastry on the squared plate, plate that you - at the end - will put in the oven.

Wash all potatoes, peel them, cut them in circles (1cm thin).
Cut and wash the leeks in small squares.
Open the grated cheese packet or grate cheese (le gruyère for example).

Now all is ready !

On the pastry, make some eyes with your forket.

Put one layer of grated cheese.
Put one layer of circled potatoes.
Put one layer of small-cut leeks.
Put one layer of grated cheese.
Put one layer of circled potatoes.
Put one layer of small-cut leeks.
[Put one layer of grated cheese.
Put one layer of circled potatoes.
Put one layer of small-cut leeks. ; it depends on your hunger. ]
Put one layer of grated cheese.

On each layer of potatoes you can put condiments (mas fuerte, mejor es ! )

Then... put the second puff pastries over, and close the "box"... if you don't close it, cheese will melt and pour...

Put it all in the middle of the oven... and wait 40-50 minutes (this depends strongly on the sorts of the ovens !). But keep your eye on the oven, in order to avoir bad surprise.

And the second time, and the third time, ... that you cook it. Adapt it to your bad past experiences.

NB : in cooking vocabulary my english is poor... because I haven't yet bought a big dictionnary.

Fresh ones, of course, that was really a silly question

Would you say this one is an authentic Spanish tortillas recipe, Dixie? I would love to try them, but I'm not sure if this is really the way you would cook them in Spain?

http://www.xmission.com/~dderhak/recipe/tortilla.htm

Shokin, thanks for the recipe I didn't know that sort of gâteau yet!

My country`s famous food

Post by pimpim »

My country`s famous food is SUSHI.

But,My favorit food is OKONOMIYAKI! :P

Do you know? :D

OKONOMIYAKI are a kind of flour pancake cooked on a griddle.

When they are done,a special sause is put on them and AONORI (green water vegetable  ) flakes are sprinkld on them.

People cut them into small pieces before eating.

There are a lot of OKONOMI restaurants around my house.

I want to eat OKONOMIYAKI everyday!

I´m from Basque Country. As we are near to the sea we enjoy cooking a great variety of cookery seafood recipes. On the other hand, food is very important to us because some of the most important resolutions or family reunions are always made around a table where we eat qualified food and wine.
Hi Dixie,
I eat "pa amb tumaca" sometimes. I have learnt from you and it´s delicious. It reminds me your country where I have enjoyed a lot.

Just out of curiosity, how do you pronounce Pho, Arale? Is it like English or does it have a different pronunciation?

EDIT: I just took a look at the Wiki link. Nevermind :D

Vietnamese is a tonal language, Dixie. In Vietnamese, we write it 'Phở'. Difficult for me to write its pronunciation here!

Well I love Ranma too.

But about Estonian famous food is very hard to say. I could not name many Estonian food if any. It doesn't mean that Estonians don't have own specific taste, but all foods we eat u can find also elsewhere they may be already some nations famous food. but they are just made little diffrent way for diffrent taste. I think probably most forgeins don't extol Good Estonian food, their taste is already spoilt by their own nation horrible cooking.
