Vietnamese bad habits

Postby hung » Tue Dec 05, 2006 8:09 am

The literary critic Vuong Tri Nhan says he is writing a book focusing on the bad habits of Vietnamese and it will be released in some day.
Ugly Vietnamese???
The new book is planned about 300 pages but some scholars guess it is not enough. So, the question is we are really bad?

Edited by mod: link was too long. Rename it again if you'd like.

Nope, we're not that bad. Our culture is just too conservative, and we need changes. 8)

Did you read the book "Ugly Chinese"?
I think everybody has the bad habit.Finding the mistake and correcting it is all we have to do.

No, this is the first time I've heard of these "ugly" books. Are they good? I'll ask my cousin to send me a copy if they are. My dad went to the States when I was 6 or 7. And we went to the States with my mom later on. What's up?

I have never those books, only heared from radio or television.
Some people don't like "Ugly Vietnamese" because the purpose of the author is not to show the Vietnamese their bat habit but laugh at the people with whom he live.

I'd like to read it first before making any personal comments, you know. Personally, I think some people out there don't like others to point out their faults. They think it's impolite or not the other's business to do so. I, on the other hand, think otherwise. If something is wrong or not true, it's wrong or not true. And one should be glad to be corrected.

A problem is not related to "Vietnamese bad habit".My friend say that the sentence "So, the question is we are really bad?" is not correct and he changed to "So,the question is the fact that we are really bad?".
Is it right?

It's the first time for me to hear that there is a book writing on bad habits of Vietnamese . I think we should read it if it's published because we can also have some of those bad habits , and changing them help us better . In fact , no one is perfect and every nation has its own deficiency .

It should be....... (some comments or facts here before making the following question), so the question is, are we really bad? Or you can make it as a separate sentence using so or therefore. (I find it tacky using so in the beginning of a sentence)

Exactly! Everyone has their own ugly sides. However, when it goes from an individual to a group, our belief is, one is for all, and all will be for one.
