I have read once that Hello Kitty was really intended to have no mouth because it is said that Hello Kitty communicates with her heart and not with her mouth.

I could never understand why so many Asian girls at my university are so crazy about Hello Kitty. It was a mystery to me why a nineteen-twenty year old girls (or I’d rather say young women) would use a hello kitty pens, wear hello kitty t-shirts, have hello-kitty charms on their pink cellar phones, bags, backpacks, etc. And then I was reading an article about Gothic Lolita(which is another quite strange and interesting phenomenon) and came across this:

"Japanese culture places a higher value upon extremely youthful appearance and behaviour than Western, and some adult women buy large amounts of products, such as Hello Kitty goods, that are typically marketed only to children in the West".
