NEWCASTLE - Declared a disaster zone.

Postby Shazzam » Sun Jun 10, 2007 10:46 pm

What a weekend! It started on Thursday night and the rain has only stopped today (Monday). I have never seen such destruction. I had to be pulled out of my car (by a friendly stranger) on Friday afternoon (it looked more like midnight) as the water rose and literally swallowed my car up on the road. Thank god there are still some nice people out there. So many people this morning in the Newcastle area are homeless and cars are strewn all over the place. Mostly underwater.

I will post some sites soon.

Coal Ship washed up on NOBBYS BEACH!!!!

Postby Shazzam » Mon Jun 11, 2007 2:47 am

From the storms a coal ship which was just off Newcastle waiting to get into the harbour to load, had emptied all its water to enter the harbour. It is now about 20metres off shore on NOBBYS BEACH - Newcastle. In the middle of this incredible mess everyone is making it incredibly difficult for SES workers by doing the tourist thing and taking photos. Emergency services are finding it really hard to navigate around Newcastle to assist people in crisis because of the traffic.

OK This is such an unusual Photo that I thought that I would post it even though I know it is against the rules. This is near where Shazzam lives and I, The great and talented though modest Danyet, was walking on the beach less than a year ago.

They are having terrible and historic storms there

A friend of mine claims that the word is the ship is "cracking up". Gonna be a lot of oil floating around for awhile, if that is true!

Coal Ship Photo - Danyet

Postby Shazzam » Mon Jun 11, 2007 7:52 am

Thanks for your kind words Danyet. I don't see what could possibly be wrong with posting such a historic picture, and trust me it is! The last time an event of this magnitude took place in Newcastle was when the "Signa" (i think that is how you spell it) was wrecked at STOCKTON BEACH. It is now a reef for fish. That event took place just over 30 years ago.

The whole of Newcastle is in shock at current events. There was a family that lost their lives (two adults and three children) when a piece of road at Somerset literally disintegrated. Too much suffering!! :( :(

Tonight as the rain ceased. The cleanup begins. However the fear remains as many residents wait for the waters to rise gain as rivers break their banks.

Probably not. It never rains where it should. East coast always seems to get more than required, where West gets nothing.
