I think what happened in Katherine was more destructive than this one, right?

No offence as I know that you may not have alot of information regarding the geography of Australia but Katherine is in the Northern Territory it is a tropical zone (climate). They only have two seasons: WET and DRY. The area is prone to flooding and cyclones in fact it is unusual if they don't get at least one cyclone in the WET season.

On the other hand the event in Newcastle is unexpected. A storm of this magnitude hasn't been seen before. They claim a storm 30 or so years ago didn't even have the ferocity of this one.

There is more than just the storm itself as people are looting due to abandoned cars, homes etc. It is just horrible.

Alot of people are back in their homes, now the clean up begins. Most houses in my area have at least four inches of mud inside their houses. My car was nearly washed away so I don't have a car at the moment. I am one of the lucky ones as of last week my work moved to 50metres from my house so I can walk to work. I am sure there are alot of people they aren't that lucky.

I just feel grateful that no-one I know was hurt. Stuff can get fixed and replaced. Lives can't!

Another weekend of storms in Newcastle I have never seen so much rain. It would now appear that they are getting it where they need it. Sydney has coped it this weekend too and Warragamba Dam is doing pretty well. So maybe some good news.

OMG the sun is out and the sky is blue this morning. Thank God. It has been two weeks of heavy rain.....Everyone I know is feeling depressed and suffering from cabin-fever. I just hope we get a few nice days (even though it is cold) so that people can start to clean up the mess...

Can't believe it! I thought they would have to turn this thing into a fish tank or a floating tourist attraction selling fish and chips!!
