Meeting poeple in web

Web is the same good place for meeting people as club, cinema, school or place where you work. Maybe not the same, but similar...
A few days ago I met a fantastic man in web. We write each other and always have many interesting topics to discuss.
But the question is:
Is he real or virtual?
Can it be a false face- the better one, of course- of real man?
Have you any experiences?
