Microsoft Office

Postby Vega » Wed Apr 09, 2008 7:13 am

Microsoft Office is one of the popular suit of applications among users. I use it too, however, I am good at only MS Word.

Last year I installed MS Office 2007. I've noticed that when I save a MS Word document created in MS Office 2007 I cannot open it then at another desktop with previous version of MS Office. Has anybody faced with problem like that?

I voted none. I have used Koffice and OpenOffice. Ms office I used last time some years ago. But yesterday I used google doc to write a document and publish it. I liked it.. even thought it was little discomfort because It was first time to use it.

About Ms file formats. They really suck. It's not just that u can't open documents made by never version than you have but it doesn't open also very old documents made by something office 95, very well... I have little followed news regarding of odf vs ooxml documents format. It seems microsoft doing some nasty job to bull through own ooxml as iso standard. First they failed to get accepted several times, but now seems they got enough votes to get also ooxml to ISO standard. Even thought so many experts have pointed out so many flaws they have.. but no one cares about that. It seems just microsoft's new strategy to hold own position.. It doesn't change anything to more opened. It's opened only by name since it's still contains some microsoft specific non opened stuff..

Drawing a conclusion it is not safety to save documents in MS Office formate.. One day we won't be able to open it. :)

P.S.
Those who are interested in PDF formate, there is a good plug-in for MS Office which allows you to convert Word document into PDF. http://www.primopdf.com/

I forgot to say that when I used Ms office in past I used only word, and also in OpenOffice I use mostly only writer and same with Koffice and google doc. And even there in that one I use only about 0.01% of it's capabilities.. I'm too lazy to learn and I don't need those other programs often anyway.

Another issue I've encountered while using MS Word is following:

I have a documednt with 19 pages. When you indicate numbers of pages, it usually goes in the following order: 1,2,3,4,5, etc. In my case, I have to omit some numbers: ...6,7,8,10,11,12,14 etc. I was trying the whole evening to do that but failed to. :( If anyone knows how can I do that, please tell me as soon as possible.

Hi. I have 19 pages. I want to indicate page numbers begining from 6th number and omiting some of them: 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, 12, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27. I know how to begin from desired page number, but I can't omit some page numbers..When I try to edit a particular page number, the change takes effect on other pages too. They take the same value that I have just entered. :?

What if I send you the dockument (60 kb). Could you indicate page numbers at the right top position of pages? :) Well, if you're busy..never mind.
