Re: lay/lie
1. lie, lied, lied = to tell an untruth
The police claimed that the accused lied to them.
2. lie, lay, lain = to prostrate oneself flat on a suface
I feel sick. Can I lie down?
3. lay, laid, laid - to put something flat on a surface
Please lay the cloth across the table.
Lay the baby on the bed.
4. lay, laid, laid - produce an egg
Our chicken has laid 3 eggs today.
Americans tend to use 3 instead of 2.
I feel sick. Can I lay down?
