Open classes and Closed system

HI! could you tell me the exact definition and the difference between open classes and closed system.

Open classes are those such as nouns and verbs, to which new words can be, and regularly are, added.
Closed classes are those such as conjunctions and prepositions, to which it is unlikely that any new words will be added (at least in the near future).
