Punctuation

Post by Paulfth »

Hi Alan and all.

Please help the grammatically challenged. One of which is me (smile).

I never thought there could be so many grammar points in one sentence. This sentence is proving to be a tough one (for me anyway). Would you help me set it right?

I'm writing a work of fiction and the setting is in a mystical place called “Paul's Blissful Paradise”. Two characters (Aaron and Melinda) are talking and Aaron is telling Melinda about a place 50 miles out to sea called "Coconut island". The dialogue goes as follows.
The official name for it is "The PBP Coconut island", but most people simply call it "The island".
In the quote "The PBP Coconut Island" do I include the word "The" in quotes? How about the word "island?" And should "The" be capitalized? Also, should the word "island" be capitalized?
And how about "The" in "The island?" and should "island" be capitalized here?
And at the end, do I have the period in the right place? And how about the comma after "PBP Coconut island?" And are the quotation marks right? Whew.

If some of it is wrong, would you rewrite it with the correct punctuation (hopeful smile here)?

Thanks Josef.

I had tried that sentence about 10 different ways and still couldn't set it right. Long may you teach.
