Tense

Post by Rustamsher »

In the fitness club Christopher ... his hand, but it's OK now.

(a) hurt
(b) has hurt
(c) is hurting
(d) had hurt

This test seemed easy at first, but later in the class we had a long discussion on the choices
between (a) and (b).

Mr Alan, could you explain which of our options is correct?

Thanks in advance!

B is absurd, since the present perfect implies that the hand in question is still injured (contradicted by the latter half of the sentence). Hence A is the only sensible choice.
