I've been taught that whenever you come across the uncountable nouns, like cheese and food, you should use "is" instead of "are". In my personal knowledge, "is" is used for singular noun. But then, if this logic is valid, the uncountable nouns should come with "has" instead of the "have", which is a plural verb, right? What do you guys think about?
Thanks

Yes, they govern a singular verb irrespective of the verb...
