the position of adj. 'famous'

Postby sherrychan » Thu Nov 14, 2013 6:57 am

The commandos, who are part of the Royal Navy, are famous the world over for the gruelling training they face and their bravery on the battlefield.

I saw this sentence at BBC website, why is ' famous the world' but not 'famous in the world'?

'The world over' is a structurally unique expression meaning 'all over the world'.
